QuickBooks, VAT, MTD and online accounting

Get Linked, Save Time.

We're pleased to announce Guestbook247 can now be linked to QuickBooks Online for UK based customers, providing seamless way to integrate your booking invoices direct to your online accounting solution. We believe this will save businesses significant time, reduce mistakes and for UK customers help meet Making Tax Digital (MTD) VAT compliance and ease changing VAT rates during these COVID times.

MTD VAT - What Is That?

For UK VAT registered businesses from April 2019 Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT went live. This obligates VAT registered businesses with a turnover over £85,000 to keep digital records and to submit VAT returns online using an HMRC approved software, such as QuickBooks Online. Up until now you have been able to manually move data from your other business software solutions, such as Guestbook247, into your accounting software. However from April 2021 so called "copy and paste" of VAT related transaction data will no longer to acceptable by HMRC. Instead you need to being using a so called "Digital Link" between your business software and the HMRC approved accounting software. For full tax details on MTD VAT please consult with your accountant or review https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vat-notice-70022-making-tax-digital-for-vat/vat-notice-70022-making-tax-digital-for-vat

By using Guestbook247 with QuickBooks you get a a fully compliant VAT solution with Guestbook247 acting as the primary digital record for booking invoices and as a digital link to Quickbooks Online. This means invoices you issue from Guestbook247 will be automatically exported to Quickbooks, from here you are able to use that information to help prepare and submit your VAT online to HMRC.

You will require a subscription to Quickbook Online, see quickbooks.intuit.com/uk/online/ and to link that with Guestbook247. This can be done from app.guestbook247.com/AccountingLinks where you can securely link Quickbook Online with your Guestbook247 account.

Even if your business is not required to comply with MTD for VAT then linking Guestbook247 with Quickbooks Online still offers a cost effective and seamless solution to manage your bookings and accounts.

We hope to soon provide support for customer to link Guestbook247 to Quickbooks Online for Australian and New Zealand  customers. We are also looking to provide support for alternative online accounting solutions such as Zero. Watch this space.

Making Invoicing Even Easier

Base Rate Templates. With the recent release of Guestbook 247 Kaprun invoicing has just become even easier. We've worked to make it simple to split a booking base rate into one or more invoice lines. So for instance if a booking base rate includes a room rate and breakfast fee attracting different tax rates you can now define this once in a base rate template and apply it to selected bookings. Guestbook will generate an invoice containing separate lines for the room rate and breakfast. The template can define a mix of invoice items with fixed or percentage based amounts. Guestbook 247 will take care of allocating the base rate across the different invoice categories and tax rates. So taking our bed and breakfast example the template rules would look like: breakfast €15 inc 12% tax per night room rate 100% of unallocated base rate (after breakfast amount) inc 15% tax per night You can define multiple base rate templates to cover different requirements and set one to be
